Frequently Asked Questions

How is GPA calculated?

GPA is calculated by multiplying each course's grade points (based on the 4.0 scale) by its credit hours, summing those totals across all courses, and dividing by the total number of credit hours. This tool does that automatically as you add courses.

What grade points does each letter grade get?

This calculator uses the standard 4.0 scale: A+ and A are 4.0, A- is 3.7, B+ is 3.3, B is 3.0, B- is 2.7, C+ is 2.3, C is 2.0, C- is 1.7, D+ is 1.3, D is 1.0, D- is 0.7, and F is 0.0.

What is the difference between semester GPA and cumulative GPA?

Semester GPA reflects only the courses you enter for the current term. Cumulative GPA combines those courses with your previous GPA and credit hours to show your overall academic average. Turn on "Include previous GPA" to see both.

Does this support plus and minus grades?

Yes. The grade dropdown includes plus and minus variations, such as A+, A, A-, B+, B, and B-, using the standard 4.0-scale grade points.

Can I use a different grading scale?

This calculator uses the common unweighted 4.0 scale used by most US colleges and universities. If your school uses a different scale, such as a weighted 4.3 or 5.0 scale, treat the result as an approximation and check your institution's official grading policy.

Is this GPA calculator accurate for my school?

The math is accurate for any school using the standard 4.0 unweighted scale. Some schools weight honors or AP courses differently, or apply plus/minus grades inconsistently, so always confirm your official GPA with your registrar.

Is my data saved or sent anywhere?

No. Everything runs locally in your browser. Your courses, grades, and GPA are never uploaded, stored on a server, or shared — nothing is saved once you close or refresh the page.
