Frequently Asked Questions

What is an IP address?

An IP address (Internet Protocol address) is a unique numerical label assigned to every device connected to a network. It identifies the host or network interface and provides the device's location within the network.

What information does this tool show?

The tool shows the IP address, type (IPv4 or IPv6), country, region, city, postal code, timezone, UTC offset, ISP or organisation, and latitude and longitude. A link to OpenStreetMap is also provided.

Can I look up my own IP address?

Yes. Leave the input field empty and click Look Up. The tool will automatically detect and display information about your current public IP address.

Is the location shown accurate?

IP geolocation is an estimate based on routing data and ISP records. City-level accuracy is typical but not guaranteed. The location reflects where the IP is registered, not necessarily where the device is physically located.

Does this tool store my IP address?

FreeToolHub does not store any IP addresses or lookup results. Location data is fetched from ipapi.co and is subject to their privacy policy. No data is retained by FreeToolHub.

What is the difference between IPv4 and IPv6?

IPv4 uses a 32-bit format written as four decimal numbers separated by dots (e.g., 192.168.1.1) and supports about 4.3 billion addresses. IPv6 uses a 128-bit hexadecimal format and supports a vastly larger address space to meet modern internet demands.

Can I look up private IP addresses?

No. Private IP ranges (10.x.x.x, 192.168.x.x, 172.16–31.x.x, 127.x.x.x) are not publicly routable and cannot be geolocated.
