Final Grade Calculator

Calculate your weighted grade from category scores, or find out what score you need on your final exam — instant, accurate, and private.

Final Grade Calculator has two tools in one: a weighted grade calculator that turns category names, weights, and scores into a live overall percentage and letter grade, and a grade-needed calculator that tells you exactly what score you need on a remaining test or final exam to hit your target grade. Runs entirely in your browser — no uploads, no signup. Made by FreeToolHub.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is my weighted grade calculated?

Each category's score is multiplied by its weight, the results are added together, and the total is divided by the sum of the weights you entered. For example, 88% on homework worth 20%, 82% on quizzes worth 30%, and 91% on exams worth 50% gives (88 x 20 + 82 x 30 + 91 x 50) / 100 = 87.7%.

What if my category weights don't add up to 100%?

The calculator still works. It shows a warning and normalizes your weights proportionally, dividing the weighted total by the sum of the weights you actually entered rather than assuming they must equal 100. This is useful for quickly checking a grade while you are still missing a category.

What does the letter grade scale mean?

This tool uses the standard US percentage scale: A is 90-100, B is 80-89, C is 70-79, D is 60-69, and F is below 60. Many schools use different cutoffs or add plus and minus grades, so treat the letter shown here as a general reference and check your syllabus for your instructor's exact scale.

How do I calculate what score I need on my final?

Enter your current grade, the weight of the remaining assessment as a percentage of your total course grade, and the overall grade you want to reach. The tool solves target = current x (1 - weight) + needed x weight for the needed score and shows it instantly as you type.

What if I need more than 100% on the final?

If the required score comes out above 100%, the tool tells you your target is not achievable even with a perfect score and shows exactly how many percentage points short you would be. That is useful information before an exam, since it tells you to either adjust your target or talk to your instructor about extra credit.

Is my grade data saved or uploaded anywhere?

No. Both calculators run entirely in your browser using plain JavaScript. Your categories, weights, scores, and target grades are never sent to a server, saved to an account, or shared — nothing is uploaded, and nothing persists once you close or refresh the page.
