Frequently Asked Questions

How does this webcam and microphone test work?

This tool uses your browser's built-in media APIs (getUserMedia) to access your camera and microphone. It shows a live video preview and real-time audio level visualization. Everything runs locally in your browser — no data is uploaded or stored anywhere.

Is this webcam test private and secure?

Yes. Your camera feed and microphone audio never leave your device. There is no server involved — all processing happens entirely in your browser. We do not record, store, or transmit any video or audio data.

Why is my webcam or microphone not working?

The most common reasons are: (1) You denied browser permission — click the camera/lock icon in your address bar to allow access. (2) Another application is using the device — close Zoom, Teams, or other video apps. (3) Your device is not connected or is disabled in system settings. Try refreshing the page after fixing the issue.

Can I test multiple cameras or microphones?

Yes. If you have multiple devices connected (e.g., a built-in laptop camera and an external USB webcam), use the dropdown selector to switch between them and test each one individually.

Does this work on mobile phones and tablets?

Yes. This tool works on modern mobile browsers including Safari on iOS and Chrome on Android. It will use your device's front camera by default. You can switch to the rear camera if available.

Can I record myself to check how I look and sound?

The webcam tab lets you take a snapshot and download it as a PNG image. The microphone tab includes a 5-second recording test — you can play it back to hear exactly how your microphone sounds before joining a call.
