Dice notation and types
Tabletop games describe dice rolls with shorthand like 2d6 or 1d20: the number before the "d" is how many dice to roll, and the number after it is how many sides each die has. So 3d6 means roll three six-sided dice and add them up.
d6 — six-sided die

Is this dice roll actually random and fair?
Yes. Every roll uses your browser's cryptographically secure random number generator (crypto.getRandomValues), not a simple time-based random function, so each side of every die has an equal, unbiased chance on every roll.
What does dice notation like 2d6 mean?
Dice notation follows the pattern NdS, where N is the number of dice and S is the number of sides on each one. So 2d6 means roll two six-sided dice, and 1d20 means roll one twenty-sided die.
What is a d20 used for?
The 20-sided die (d20) is the core die of most tabletop role-playing games, including Dungeons & Dragons, used for attack rolls, skill checks, and saving throws. It gives an equal 1-in-20 chance to each outcome from 1 to 20.
Can I roll dice with a custom number of sides?
